We hope you are ready to welcome the public and assist in gathering important data for butterfly season at Máyyan 'Ooyákma. We would love your help in welcoming the public this fall and winter as a member of the Habitat Protection Team!
Volunteers who have completed Survey123/Butterfly Pass training are highly encouraged to sign up for this opportunity. If you have not taken Survey123/Butterfly Pass training (often provided through Interp Host training) please email our staff so we can provide a quick overview for your support.
We are seeking three patrols each Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Sunday at 10 a.m., 11a.m., and 12 p.m. At 12 p.m. we need a full-loop ridge patrol completed; at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. patrols may be full or partial (up to at least the first interpretive station on the Bay Checkerspot Butterfly Trail or Serpentine Seep Trail and back.) If you sign up. please note that the preserve does not open until 10 a.m. and so field staff may not be ready for you until this time.
When you arrive, you will meet up with a field staff member who will provide you with a preserve steward hip bag which will contain your OSA phone. IF you do not see a staff person, please walk down the trail to the KNAACK box by the bend in the creek. There will be a lock box on the handle. Use the combo 2025 to open real estate lock box to the the key that will open the knaack box. Please secure the box and return the key to the holder on the handle. Please return your phone or tablet after finishing your patrol. Please input direction and length of patrol in your hours report and use 'Habitat Protection Team' for the project name.

Please reach out to Teri Rogoway at trogoway@openspaceauthority.org if you have any additional questions about this role.
