Volunteer shift time: 10:45 a.m. - 1:15 p.m
Date: Friday, February 14, 2025
Location: Edith Morley Park
- 635 Campbell Technology Pkwy, Campbell 95008
Program Time: 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m
Description: We're looking for docents who know and love birds! Since it's the beginning of several bird species' courtship and nesting season, we thought it would be a great time to have a gentle walk, taking time to appreciate our feathered animals. Even if we do not see courting behavior, we can check out some birds, while talking about what to expect in the coming months (e.g. plumage changes, behavior, nesting, etc.).
Of course, since it's Valentine's Day, we thought folks might enjoy this topic. The specific public description is below.
Questions? Want to know more? Interested, but want some clarity? Reach out to Mel :)

Note:
- We reminded the public that we can't control nature, so if the birds are a bit "quiet" that day, there are other great things to chat about along the walk, like native plant species and generally appreciating a morning stroll.
- Program name to log in and report hours: Guided Hike

L❤️VE is in the Air at Rancho Cañada – Birding Courtship & Nesting
♫ ♪ ♬Ahhhhhhh... do you hear it? It’s the sound of love ❤️! ...errrrrr... at the very least it’s the sound of birds determining a suitable partner for mating?
Did you know February is when several birds in our region begin “courtship” and nesting? Join us on a stroll to look for signs of this exciting annual phenomenon, when birds showcase their evolutionary skill of finding the best partner through song and dance – don't you wish we could all do a jig or sing a jingle with similar results?
Of course, we can’t control nature. So even if the birds are a bit shy that day, we’ll still see birds or exciting critters along the way.
We hope you’ll join us on a Valentine’s Day stroll with loved ones, all while exploring how nature got this pair-bonding thing down! We hope you’ll be our valentine and join us!
