Santa Clara County Parks is hosting their first ever Perseids in the Park event on August 15, 2026 at Joseph D. Grant County Park. We need two (2) volunteers to run the OSA information booth during this event. Astronomy enthusiast volunteers are desired but not required. The event runs from 8:00pm-10:30pm. Volunteer shift will be 7:00pm-10:30pm. (Set up starting at 7pm).
The event will be themed primarily around inspiring curiosity about the night sky and both the modern and historic ways that humans have observed and told stories about what they see up in the sky at nighttime. Calls to action about light pollution and how to mitigate/prevent it will be incorporated into the programming. OSA volunteers can help promote upcoming stary nights events upcoming at OSA preserves.
*Please note that this event will take place entirely at night and will be conducted using the most warm-tone, lowest light possible while maintaining safe levels of visibility. As much as possible, please plan to bring lighting that does not damage night vision. Parks will also provide as much of this warm-tone low lighting as we can for your convenience.*
We are excited to have volunteer champions to represent the Authority at this fun event! Jeanette will coordinate with volunteers to pick-up and drop off materials at our offices at 33 Las Colinas, before and after the event. Please let us know if you are able to transport materials (kit, table, chairs, giveaways and cart) when you sign up. We will send out further details to sign-ups as they are confirmed.
