We are looking for one docent to lead a guided hike at Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve on Friday November 24th from 7:30am – 9:30am!
As a docent you will lead this hike and help all guests learn a little more about this preserve and the plants and animals that live here. The actual program will be from 8:00am – 9:30am, but you will arrive at 8:30am to check in with the sweeps and greet guests as they arrive. As a docent you have full creative freedom to create the program you’d like. If you have questions or who like help coming up with ideas, email Michelle Garcia at mgarcia@openspaceauthority.org
We do want to keep this hike easy and quick for folks who aren’t able to hike far. This hike will be about 1.2 miles around the Aquila Trail which is mostly flat with one short section of uphill.
What to bring: Please bring comfortable hiking shoes, warm layers, plenty of snacks and water, and of course wear your volunteer shirt.
About the event: This hike is a part of our Hike Your Pie Off event. Every year on the day after Thanksgiving, we invite the public out to the preserves to spend time in nature! This year we are offering a guided hike at each of preserves (Sierra Vista, Coyote Valley, Rancho Cañada del Oro, and Máyyan ‘Ooyákma – Coyote Ridge) to celebrate.
How to get there: Sierra Vista Open Space Preserve is located at 5345 Sierra Rd, San Jose, CA 93132. It is a large, protected area in the hills directly above Alum Rock Park. For more information about Sierra Vista check out our website: Sierra Vista (openspaceauthority.org)
