2023/24 Trail Master Training Program

Expired

Description

Have you ever wanted to learn how to use a McCloud? Perhaps you crave the satisfaction of keeping our trail corridors and trails in top shape? Looking for a volunteer opportunity with equal parts camaraderie and hard work?

Then consider joining us for the 2023/2024 Trail Master training program! This will begin on December 16, 2023 and last through June of 2024. During that time we will host three formal training commitments, two of those at the Tilton Ranch and one of them at Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve. In between these formal training sessions that feature hands-on instruction there are regular and ongoing opportunities to join other volunteers in the field to practice skills and gain competency. At the end of the 6 month training period, trainees are expected to have logged 35 hours of time in the field and then pass a written test for understanding.

Trail Master Volunteers play an important role in our land management and are responsible for the trails and trail corridors being in great shape throughout the year. They also play a key role in making sure properties like Diablo Foothills, which is opened to the public for public access events each year, are prepared for visitation with safe conditions for guests.

2023/24 Schedule:

Saturday, December 16, 8am to 12pm at the Tilton Ranch Complex.

  • Course overview and introduction (1 - 1.5 hours)
  • Trail tread tools, skills, training (2 - 2.5 hours)

As mentioned above, there will be ongoing Trail Master volunteer opportunities in the field for trainees to join. Every Tuesday, Thursday, and the third Saturday of each month, to be exact. We expect trainees to participate in all three instructional sessions laid out here and participate in one session per month in order to complete training requirements by June.
