We are looking for a few volunteers to help with a photo walk on Sunday May 19th from 8:30am - 11:30am at Spreckels Hill!
Ron Horii will be the docent leading the charge, but we're looking for a couple of sweeps to help keep the group together and answer questions as we go. Because Spreckels Hill is typically closed to the public we will also need a volunteer or two to help greet guests at the gate and close it after everyone has arrived to prevent the cows from escaping. There will be a porta potty on site.
The actual event will go from 9:00am - 11:00am. Please arrive at 8:30am to check in with Ron and start greeting early arrivals. At about 9:15a. or 9:20am you can close and dummy lock the entrance gate so that the cows don't escape. The volunteer on gate duty should stand next to the gate as everyone arrives to welcome them and shew away and curious cattle.
What to Bring: Please wear you volunteer shirt and name tag, bring plenty of water and snacks, and wear comfortable hiking shoes. Spreckels Hill is not typically open to the public so the terrain there can be uneven.
How to Get There: For directions to Spreckels Hill please input these coordinates into your navigation system of choice: 37.195420, -121.734551 OR click this link: https://maps.app.goo.gl/Ltbji6iSvVP53VwF7
Spreckels Hill is at the corner of Santa Teresa Blvd and Bailey Ave in South San Jose. To get there exit HWY 101 on Bailey Ave and turn left onto Santa Teresa Blvd. The entrance to Spreckels Hill will come up very quickly on your right hand side.
About the Event: Photo walks are all about learning about a new place and of course taking some cool photos. Bring your camera if you got one! Of course it's not required. This walk will also be a great opportunity for people to take and submit photos for the Coyote Valley photo contest! As a part of the in-progress Coyote Valley Conservation Area Master Plan (CVCAMP) we’re looking for photos that reveal the many unique aspects of this important conservation landscape’s open spaces. Photo contest winners will receive a $100 gift card to REI and have their photos featured with credit in upcoming Open Space Authority events and publications.
