We are looking for 10 volunteers to help with the Perseid Meteor Shower Viewing at Rancho Cañada del Oro Open Space Preserve on Monday August 12 from 7:00pm - 12:30am. We will need volunteers to help with set up, at welcome tables, tear down, parking, check in guests, and make sure guests have an enjoyable night.
The actual event goes from 8:00pm - 12:00pm. By about 9:00pm most guests will have arrived, and you can enjoy the rest of the night with the meteors! We will also be joined by the San Jose Astronomical Association so they can help us get a closer look at the night sky. At 11:45pm we will start cleaning up and we should be all wrapped up by 12:15pm or 12:30pm.
Family and friends are welcome! We have room for many :)
Be on the lookout for more details to come from Michelle and Teri!
What to bring: Volunteer shirt, high-vis-vest, flashlight with a red-light option, comfortable walking shoes, WARM layers, and a camp chair.
About the event: This is a yearly event we put on for the public to see the Presides Meteor Shower in the dark skies of one of our preserves. We run this event in partnership with the San Jose Astronomical Association (SJAA). SJAA does the educational astronomy and we run the parking and check in. Once parked, guests can watch the meteor shower from their cars, or laydown a blanket in the meadow. Guests are welcome to move from area to astronomer as they like. We expect there will be upwards of 100 guests who come and join us for this event!
